George Zapalac's
Dallas Union Terminal

LOCATION: South Austin
SCALE: HO
SIZE: 25' x 18'
This layout is based loosely on the Dallas Union Terminal from the 1950’s. Nine railroads are represented with a mix of steam and first-generation diesel power: Katy, Texas & Pacific, Burlington, Santa Fe, Rock Island, Southern Pacific, Cotton Belt, Kansas City Southern, and Frisco. Most of the track is in place and operational, and scenery is about 15% complete. The layout is designed for heavy passenger traffic operations based on timetables of the era, with through and local freights sandwiched in between. The track plan is an “out and back” plan with a reversing loop staging yard to simulate point-to-point operation.

Also under construction but not yet fully operational is a portion of the Dallas Ry. & Terminal Co. streetcar system that served Dallas and Oak Cliff.

Partially Handicap Accessible from ground-level door, but aisles are too narrow for a wheelchair.
