David Barrow's
Santa Fe Plains Division

LOCATION: West Austin
SCALE: HO
SIZE: 36' x 30'
OPERATING SESSIONS: Monthly, 8 Operators
David Barrow models the AT&SF Plains Division Fourth District in 1977 from Slaton, TX to Lubbock, TX on this 30'x36' layout. The main line between Slaton and Lubbock and the east and west ends of Lubbock are managed by a radio dispatcher using a replica of the 1977 TCS machine. The major switching activity takes place in Slaton and the two yards in Lubbock. Car forwarding is with car cards and the Lubbock yard master (who works off-layout, as per the prototype) provides switch lists for his three switch crews.

Each operating session re-enacts eight hours of daily operations. In addition to the Lubbock yard master and switch crews, there is also a Slaton yard master and switch crew and two through train crews. With an emphasis on realistic operation, the layout is minimally sceniced, with photos standing in for many trackside businesses. The layout operates with Easy DCC control.

The layout is on the second floor, accessed via stairs.
